    @Horace said in The Grocery Inflation Thread:

    My go-to bag of dog food doubled in price. I've been skipping from brand to brand now trying to find reasonable prices.

    Have you noticed any taste difference? 🤔

      Costco:

      • dozen of butter croissants, from $4.99 to $5.99
      • mixed green salad 1 lb. box, from $3.99 to $4.49

      McDonald's:

      • ice cream sundae, from $1.25 to $1.99;
      • "Dollar Menu" now presented as "$1, $2, $3 menu."

        The Costco (big) hot dog plus soda combo for $1.50 hasn’t changed since 1985.

          That's because it is a loss leader.

              Along that line, a full bird rotisserie chicken seems to have been holding the line at $4.99 for a long time as well at Costco.

                  Don't go to the dollar store, either. It was always a risky name for a store, lol

                    @89th

                    Why? They still take dollars.

                        I have seen quite a few “dollar stores” now selling items at $1.25 each (before tax).

                            Vox article on Costco’s $4.99 rotisserie chicken

                            https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/23207301/costco-rotisserie-chicken-poultry-farming-inflation

                            Speaks of Costco setting up its own supply (vertical integration) for this “loss leader” product that has been selling for $4.99 each for the last 11+ years, the “big chicken” industry trend, and associated environmental and societal impacts.

                              Costco did the same thing with its hot dogs - moving them to vertical integration.

                              For all the talk people make about buyings sustainably, buying from the US, etc. buying habits of people are mainly driven by their wallet.
