Owls […]. I've wanted to have one as a pet for a very long time.
Was Harry Potter an influence?

Wow. Nice.

This could become a fun and challenging rughooking pattern. I often get design ideas from photographs, and this one turned out so much better than expected. Even as a print, it would be fun to frame. It could hang by a nice pic of Jurgi already on the wall in our back hall. Hmmmm ...

Nope.

Unusual to see an owl in the daytime.

Indeed it is unusual. Even more unusual to be able to see one while driving along. As George said, their camouflage is very good. I'm surprised I even saw it from my side of the vehicle . It was on hubby's side of the road, but he never saw it. We had to back up on this very quiet country road, and I took the pic from across the vehicle to hubby's window and across the road. It took all the enlargement my camera had to do it.
I handed my phone to hubby for a closer picture, and the owl flew further into the woods. Hubby got a couple more pics, but the owl was quite far away. Even though it wasn't an ideal situation, being on the far side of the vehicle, the pics I hurriedly took were closer.
I am surprised this phone camera can do so well. We have a nice camera, but it takes forever to get it out, focused, and ready to go. We weren't out to take pics, so we didn't even bring the nice camera.
The phone camera is always with me and fast to use. I'm so glad it does a fairly good job, and it's not even a newer phone. -

That is a gorgeous picture. Especially in black and white.
The photos are untouched, no revision or editing to just black and white.
I also like this picture with the bird's head turned. It shows a bit more of the green moss on the tree bark. I like the small amounts of green to give the picture some depth. It has the mossy green, some brown, tan, and beige, and shades of gray. The mossy green areas are important to the overall effect, but they don't take away from the owl. You can see the edge of hubby's window glass on the bottom.

The owl looks like he or she wants to look good for the picture, ha, ha.
Nice picture, Brenda.

Thank you, MMB! I must agree that he seems fine with having his picture taken. He sat there long enough to let us take several pics. I read this particular type of owl, the Barred Owl, is very curious and inquisitive. Perhaps he was just as curious about us as we were of him.
