Camden is being touted by CNN as having disbanded its police force. The fine print is a new one was created.
The really fine printin Wikipedia is that it doubled in size.

In the event none of the suburbs ever joined, so it still just polices the city.
I think the move cut the average pay/benefits package by half.

In that sense defunding of the police is accurate.

This issue has become similar to the immigration debate. As it became necessary for people to say out loud that they do believe immigration laws have a place in society, or to explicitly deny that, it now seems necessary for us to say out loud that police are useful and deserving of our tax dollars, or to explicitly deny that.

Explicitly denying it still seems quite rare.
But there's probably a lot of 'motte and bailey' arguments being adopted, so it's hard to say.

I watched the MSM news tonight, I think ABC.
Wow, we're in trouble, at least based on their segments. So incredibly one-sided and biased, I'm sure some would quip "Pravda."
If politicians will not stick up for anything, seems to me there will be some police departments that will need to push back. If a police department has blue flu (if that's what it's called), that may be a necessary wake up call to trigger some reasonableness. There is only one politician that stands up, and that is Trump. But if he keeps tweeting that stupid crazy shit like he did today. . .
I figured maybe he is trying to get himself banned on Twitter, for reasons I can't figure. If not that, then he really is a pompous ass and a bully, and will lose in November based upon his steady stream of nonsense.

Donald Trump is defunding the police
He’s proposed cuts in budget after budget, and is holding up needed fiscal aid.

Apparently this cop was suspended - still funny.
George, the "Link to Tweet" showed up as part of your post. That worked great and yes, funny and ironic!

https://www.vox.com/2020/6/16/21286669/donald-trump-is-defunding-the-policeAre you truly that fucking stupid? COPS has Jack shit to do with police. It's the "Community Oriented Protection Services". In other words, it's another Democrat waste of money to pay a bunch of leftwing nutjobs to go around their community and ask the thugs if they want to sign up for finger painting classes.
This is why none of you dumbass democrats should be trusted. All up and down the chain, nothing but morons.

Can’t blame the violence on federal officers.

Yeah Chicago has similar gains. Probably many cities.
If only there existed a national movement focused on black lives that had some sway with our municipal governments. They could talk some sense into these defunding efforts.

In the short run at least BLM could actually have the net effect of having a negative effect? What what a dashboard look like?

This isn’t new nor was it not predicted by me and many others. Google ‘Ferguson Effect’.

All true but it is certainly worth repeating. Never will see MSM highlighting it or justifying as necessary sacrifice.
Mention it to most liberals and watch their heads explode.
