I used to love that show. Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan), in particular, was hilarious. He got his own "chat show" after this.

The guy behind this show was Armando Iannucci, who also wrote the movie The Death of Stalin, and created the show Veep.

It actually started as a radio show, which I loved, called On the Hour. Theyβre available on BBC Sounds and are pretty much the same show but for radio.
Steve Coogan was quite well known in Manchester before then and had done voices for Spitting Image. His Paul Calf character is a pretty accurate representation of the student hating locals. I think I was a student there at the same time he was.
