Apple sucks, and Verizon is no better

Nuff said.

Apple hates you.
Does Verizon hate you now too?
They love my moneyâŚ.

So Apple comes to realize that their Lightning port sucks and switch to USB-C, but good lord, we canât let you just use pre-existing bricks or cables, so our new connections have to be Lightning (which weâve already admitted sucks by switching to C) to USB-C rather than USB -A to USB-C⌠Oh, and the brick isnât includedâŚ.
And Verizon? $40 to turn on the new iPhone, connect it to the WiFi and let it self update? Then you ask, âhey, did you want me to transfer the stuff to the new phone?â A process that consists of just logging into iCloud and hitting transfer⌠So me, (thinking nothing of it) says âOKâ⌠then I gape in shock at the $70 they charge for transferring the phoneâŚ
Gah, if this wasnât a work phone I would switch to the Walmart plan or somethingâŚ

The Lightning connector is actually very good â smaller and sturdier than the USB-C connector, just lacking the Power Delivery feature that USB-C has for high speed charging.
As for data transfer from an old iPhone to a new iPhone, always do it yourself if you can. Apple has made this quite simple.
As for Verizon, the $40 sounds like a line activation charge, something about getting Verizonâs systems ready to accept your new phone (or more accurately, your new SIM card), quite common for a customer new to a wireless service provider.
The $70 phone data transfer charge, as mentioned above, should have just done it yourself, Apple has made this very simple.
Still, I am curious, were you doing business with a store actually operated by Verizon or some third party licensed/contracted with Verizon?

The switch to USB-C is not unique to apple. Most recent phones use that type of cable now. A lot of the reason that Apple switched is because the EU insisted "compatibility."

You can. You can get a cheapo USB-C to USB-A adapter at Amazon. About $7 for a pair.
Oh, and the brick isnât includedâŚ.
After mocking Apple for not including the power brick, Samsung did the same thing, about 6 months later.

We get it, youâre rich. Enough already.
Ruining my humble brags, Horace.
