Well, rather than going through all that BS, he just bought it. He dismissed the board and he wholly owns it with no accountability.

No. Twitter remains "free." If you want to be "verified," it'll cost you some cash, as opposed to having a bunch of bureaucrats decide if you're real.
ETA: The $8 also allows you to post longer videos, see fewer ads and things I don't recall.
