No. Twitter remains "free." If you want to be "verified," it'll cost you some cash, as opposed to having a bunch of bureaucrats decide if you're real.

ETA: The $8 also allows you to post longer videos, see fewer ads and things I don't recall.

Not sure if the $8/month fee for "verified accounts" is an official policy yet. For those who don't like it, they can go build their own platform, go use something else, or go without that "verified" checkmark.

There is a lawsuit being filed by twitter employees, alleging that Musk was legally obligated to provide 60 days notice and retraining opportunities before a large layoff, by CA law.

With my familiarity with what actual workers actually do in actually big companies with actually thousands of employees, my guess is that a reduction in Twitter's work force by 75% will result in zero impact to the Twitter website.
