What does it mean to resign from the Academy? What are the consequences of that?

Good question.
Offhand, I'd guess he's not eligible for any award in the future, and can't attend the annual
circle jerkaward ceremony. -

I think it just means he can't vote on the awards. Maybe doesn't get screeners of movies for consideration. Also won't be allowed to assault presenters with impunity.

So the "Marked Safe" meme becomes official.

It means he can cash-in every year when the Academy Awards roll around.

So disturbing. But a masterpiece.

All of SAG gets the screeners. Basically the producers send them to all to generate buzz.
Remember CJQ? He would get them.

Resigning seems over the top. You can argue whether he should or shouldn't have done it, but resigning from SAG gives the incident more relevance than is warranted.

I'll bet it was pre-emptive. It's one of those "You can't fire me! I QUIT." things.

Did he resign from the SAG or the Academy?

Yeah, well, I seriously doubt Will would take a poke at Shaq, discretion being the better part of valor.

This was on CBS Sunday Morning. It's about the most sensible thing I've heard on it, although it really goes nowhere. Much like the original event.
