Hello. I am an old rubbish piano player. I used to frequent piano world but I think it disappeared. There was this really smart German guy called Klaus (not his real name, actually called Norman) who I hugely admire, but also another bloke called aqua something. Anyhow, was just looking for some piano playing tips please. Thanks

      Hello @smithburger , welcome!

As for piano playing tips, generally most people who play the piano do so by pressing down the keys (the black and white things on a piano), usually with their fingers. Hope this helps.

@Axtremus ok your make it sound simple. But how do you know in which order to press the keys? And which ones are better, the black or the white?

@smithburger , assuming you want to play the piano only for yourself, just press the keys in any order you like, using any subset you like.

I believe we have a moderator that takes care of that sort of thing.

They aren't really keys, they are more like buttons.

If you're not sure which button to push get some sheet music. The sheet music will help you decide which buttons to use.

Welcome! One thing Klaus will always have over me is that he's a much better piano player than I am. A lot of folks here are really knowledgable.

But I have to ask something, and I apologize for the tone, but it will make a lot more sense over time:

                      ARE YOU CRASHTEST? ARE YOU.

                      Please love yourself.

The white ones are better. Stay away from the black ones. Surely you have heard of white privilege.

                            Hi smithburger,
if you want to fit in here, I suggest you always choose pieces that are way too hard for you but still somehow butcher your way through them. If you are new to the piano, I'd start with the Liszt piano sonata.

                              That explains a lot......
