Kill Them In The Womb

It's waaay too early, but I think DeSantis will have a very good shot in 2024. The Left needs to pile the negatives early...

I think any GOP candidate will have a good shot given that Biden and Harris will not win, although maybe Hillary has yet another chance. DeSantis is significantly towards the MAGA side of the GOP tent and not really appealing for many moderates/conservatives. That being said, he would probably have (reluctant) votes like mine given the liberal alternative on the ballot.

Hillary has said she's out. But you know how those Clintons lie.
There are rumors....
I'd vote for DeSantis long before I'd vote for Trump. DeSantis has shown competent leadership in Florida and has a backbone.
So would I. Trump being Trump might just agitate until early next year and then throw support behind DeSantis. Wouldn't that be fun? If he does run, do you think he'd win the primary?

Bingo

It's very simple...You combine with the MAGA vote or lose.
It's a binary choice.
@89th is Non-Binary

Actually, DeSantis has done an excellent job of keeping some of the best policies and positions of Trump while getting rid of the BS. I know your hatred of Trump, but not all that he did in office was bad, and quite a bit of it was good.

I don’t hate Trump. I’ve said before as of the SOTU in Jan 2020 I was really impressed with his overall record and would’ve voted for him. But his handling of COVID and later abhorrent refusal to accept his landslide election loss, has permanently soured my opinion of him.
I’m sure DeSantis is as you’ve described in your first sentence, which is good. I’m just hoping for a conservative that can really set the GOP on a long-term path that’ll help retain conservative ideals while welcoming in moderates who currently don’t have a political home…remember my bell curve? Lol…. Most of America is in the middle looking for mature, smart, sanity.

Exactly!!

Easy to say most people want that, but then such politicians don’t get elected. Without an explanation for why most people want politicians who don’t get elected, it is difficult to take the claim seriously.
The current electoral process (and media/coverage) favor the immature, dumb, insane.

I think that may change.

Kinda doubt it.
America is set up for a two party system. What it wasn't set up for, was the primary system we have evolved into...Senators used to be appointed and Presidential candidates were selected in smoke filled rooms.
Primaries, especially closed primaries, invite the fringes of a party to dominate.

I agree 100%. You took my words from my mouth to answer @Horace

While Trump ran the table in the primaries, i remember two distinct impressions. Everybody was aghast at a crazy reality TV star running for president, and no consensus emerging from either the right or left that each given primary opponent was the saner, more stable choice. When Trump and a primary opponent were zoomed in on and considered in isolation, somehow it was never clear who the worse choice was.
-
He always had multiple primary opponents, everyone wanted to be the last non-Trump standing. Had the party organized graceful exits for all but one earlier in the process they would have stopped him. Like the Dems did after SC to stop Bernie.
