The US has paused intelligence sharing with Ukraine, the White House National Security Adviser said on Wednesday, adding that the administration was reviewing all aspects of its intelligence relationship with the country.

When asked whether intelligence sharing had been put on hold along with military aid, Mike Waltz told reporters: "We have, we have taken a step back."

The US has shared intelligence with Ukraine since the early stages of the war in 2022.

At some point (probably long past), this just looks like pettiness by President Trump. "Ooooh, President Zelensky did kiss my shoes in the Oval Office. I am going to show him!!!!"

Listen, Obama did not do a thing when Putin took the Crimea. Biden had three years to push Putin out of Ukraine or cut a deal and he didn't.

What wasn't of paramount importance, suddenly is. Actually, ending the war NOW is in America's best interests.

Again, who gives a shit about the lace around the doily? Does Zelensky cut a deal or watch his country be absorbed by Russia?

We're way past the kindergarten stage.

Actually, ending the war NOW is in America's best interests.

If that is the case, and suspect it is for a host of defensible reasons, then it is incumbent that the US actually begin acting like the honest broker and adult in the room it says it is.

At the moment the US appears anything but an adult or honest broker. Indeed it appears to be acting as a vindictive and venal third party looking to profit from the conflict.

Here's a video by a Russian woman explaining why Russian men volunteer to die in Ukraine.

                Link to video

If I was a Russian I'd probably be fighting in Ukraine too.

I half agree with you, but a few points:

                          • Obama led the effort to put sanctions on Russia (he convinced Merkel, who helped convince the rest of Europe), which essentially stopped Russia from going beyond Crimea into Donbas. Nonetheless, I agree the response was relatively weak.
                          • As @Renauda points out, we are looking like we just want profit for our investment, it's scummy. And the rare earth metals there are not rare at all, btw. Nonetheless, either we need to man up and force Russia out or we need to just cut and run and let Russia take Ukraine, then Moldova and Belarus. This wishy-washy appeasement crap would make Reagan roll in his grave.

Russia actually took Belarus long ago. At least twenty years ago, probably even longer. It’s just that no one noticed. It is a sovereign country in name only, just how Putin likes it.

I would like more details about that. The abuses of the asylum system are well known, and that needed to be cracked down on. I wonder if this is a first step to looking more critically at each of the asylees. This order is not targeted at Ukrainians. It applies much more broadly.

                                  Education is extremely important.

The obvious abuses are economic refugees, mostly from Latin America, claiming political asylum.

Seems like the refugees from the war in Ukraine is the type of situation that asylum laws were created for.

@jon-nyc said in The Ukraine war thread:

The obvious abuses are economic refugees, mostly from Latin America, claiming political asylum.

Seems like the refugees from the war in Ukraine is the type of situation that asylum laws were created for.

Which is why I don't expect these people to actually be deported. I suspect this reporting is motivated rhetoric, about a broad ruling that happens to include Ukrainian refugees in a set of people who will be looked at to determine their legitimacy as asylees.

                                        Education is extremely important.

Wouldn’t shock me if Canada or Europe took them in. They’ve even learned English by now..

I am confident Canada will welcome all Ukrainians who arrive at our border seeking refuge from not only Putin’s jackboot but now, the perfidy of the Trump regime as well.

                                          Elbows up!
