          @George-K

          Putin's playing the long game. The US, as usual, is not.

          Seems to be a missed point by many, especially since 2000. I’ll say it just once, the Russian concept of time is more akin to that of the North American Indian notion of time than a Western. Some will argue neither have any concept of time. It’s been explained many times and not just starting with G. F. Kennan. The only American Sect’y of State who really understood that was George P. Schultz.

              https://www.understandingwar.org/backgrounder/high-price-losing-ukraine

              Interesting analysis article.

              The United States has a much higher stake in Russia's war on Ukraine than most people think. A Russian conquest of all of Ukraine is by no means impossible if the United States cuts off all military assistance and Europe follows suit. Such an outcome would bring a battered but triumphant Russian army right up to NATO’s border from the Black Sea to the Arctic Ocean.

              To deter and defend against a renewed Russian threat following a full Russian victory in Ukraine the United States will have to deploy to Eastern Europe a sizable portion of its ground forces. The United States will have to station in Europe a large number of stealth aircraft. Building and maintaining those aircraft is intrinsically expensive, but challenges in manufacturing them rapidly will likely force the United States to make a terrible choice between keeping enough in Asia to defend Taiwan and its other Asian allies and deterring or defeating a Russian attack on a NATO ally.

                      Russian submarine fleet has grown.

                      image.jpeg

                      From Wiki:

                      In March 2022, roughly a month into Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Novocherkassk was docked in the port of Berdiansk in southern Ukraine with several other Russian warships. Ukrainian shelling on 25 March damaged several Russian ships there, sinking Saratov and damaging Novocherkassk.[6][7] By June 2022, Russian state media outlet TASS claimed that Novocherkassk was one of twelve landing ships in the Black Sea that could launch an amphibious operation on Ukraine. However, Novocherkassk was not confirmed to be repaired and its status remained unknown.[8]

                      On 24 August 2022 it was reported Novocherkassk and sister ship Caesar Kunikov were out of action due to lack of spare parts to repair the ships. The lack of spare parts was attributed to the sanctions imposed on Russia.[9]

                          Russia is starting on the offensive. Maybe just nibbling, but offense generates more casualties than defense. Usually.

                                    I think it may be. I believe the previous incursion was a Ukrainian air defence missile that went astray. There have however been a couple of Russian missiles that struck Romanian territory.
