Voters don't want their politicians to apologize for being wrong, or to ever admit to being wrong. The other side, after all, never apologizes when they're wrong, and never admits to being wrong, so why should my side have to fall on that sword? The world is, after all, still a better place when my side is elected to office, so in fact, the moral and righteous thing to do is to never admit to being wrong, and never apologize. To do otherwise, would be to not care about other people.

I personally don't think it's got anything on otorhinolaryngologist, or even isthmus.

I don't know why he had to up the ante with the "so". He wants an apology, ok, but an apology that intentionally positions itself to the apologetic side of normal apologies? That may be a bridge too far. Let us not ask for groveling.
Education is extremely important.

I think apologies miss the point.
People make different assumptions about the world in the face of missing facts or ambiguity.
It's more a matter of being ok with being wrong.
"I was wrong, I thought the world worked this way, turns out it works that way."
An apology is a weird thing to offer for this.
Being wrong is not something you should necessarily have to apologize for.

Admitting one is wrong is a higher bar than offering an apology anyway. Qualified apologies are easy and meaningless. And most apologies are qualified, one way or another. It's more difficult to qualify an admission of being wrong though.

Yeah, apologizing for being wrong is a bit silly.
Bad behaviour is what we should apologize for, not for having an opinion that is shown to be incorrect. And typically, the worse the behaviour, the less likely we are to apologize for it.
