Probably the same reason Putin sent in a death squad to hunt down Zelenskyy.
Psychological.

@George-K sed:
"A top Russian general has been killed amid bitter fighting in Ukraine in what represents a major blow to the Russian invasion."
I'm no strategist, but you have to wonder how effective an invasion can be if the death of one guy results in a "major blow".

The headline says 'Top Russian General', but then they describe him as a 'Major General' in the article, which is the equivalent of a Brigadier General.
Do you nit-pik this much at home or just here?
If so, I'm surprised your wife hasn't thrown your clothes on the front lawn and kicked your ass to the curb.

It's actually spelled nit-pick.

I’m not comfortable with words beginning with ni.

Aren't you the guy who posted a photo of a bunch of Italian miners in a cage and said they were Irish slaves?
Then you posted a photo of a Soviet soldier, and referred to him as a D-day veteran?
Maybe you should pay more attention to detail.

Details are for the rabble. Leaders of men think big picture.

It’s time we cancelled Month Python and the racist dog whistle that is the knights of ni. It couldn’t have been more obvious if they wore white hoods.

If software engineers showed as much attention to detail as proper engineers, we wouldn't be in the state we're currently in.

Ukranians have to be getting some type of inside intelligence to have targeted so many of the Russian commanders

However, the simple fact that they're able to take these guys out says a lot about the way the Russians do stuff.
I don't think any of US generals suffered this level of loss during our campaigns. What are these guys doing on the front lines that exposes them to this type of danger?
Now, of course, what we call a "general" might be different from how the Russian military assigns their ranks, but it just seems that there's significant level of high-level damage to leadership.

Ukraine has killed another Russian general in a further “serious blow to the morale” of the invading forces, a government adviser said Wednesday.
Maj. Gen. Oleg Mityaev died Tuesday during the storming of Ukraine’s most devastated city, Mariupol, according to Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko — who later posted a photo of the body.
Mityaev would be at least the fourth general killed during the invasion, which Kremlin officials are reportedly calling a complete “clusterf–k.’’
Maj. Gen. Oleg Mityaev died Tuesday during the storming of Ukraine’s most devastated city, Mariupol, according to Interior Ministry adviser Anton Gerashchenko.
Mityaev, 46, commanded the 150th Motorized Rifle Division and had fought in Syria, Gerashchenko said, saying his body was found with “the shoulder straps of a major general.”

Russia should stop storming cities with their generals on the front lines.
