You may overestimate the ability of humans to think rationally about socially advantageous ideas they absorb and parrot.

“Regarding Lia in the locker room, Penn told any female swimmers who had issues to essentially ‘get over it,’" the father said. "They can’t ostracize Lia.”
“Multiple swimmers have raised it, multiple different times,” a Penn swimmer said of discomfort within the locker room. “But we were basically told that we could not ostracize Lia by not having her in the locker room and that there’s nothing we can do about it, that we basically have to roll over and accept it, or we cannot use our own locker room.”

I am all for live and let live but when it intrudes on the fairness of a competition, or other more egregious violations of someone else's rights, then it cannot be permitted to continue.
"A league of their own" is not just a great movie, and movie title. They should have a league of their own.
I mean, why not then, just do away with gender based sports? All compete on ability regardless of gender, sex, or identity?

What does Title 9 actually do?
Title IX protects people from discrimination based on sex in education programs or activities that receive federal financial assistance.
What if 1,000 men want to play sports and only 100 women want to play sports?
Go find another 900 women.

Swimming's world governing body, FINA, has voted to restrict the participation of transgender athletes in elite women's competitions and create a working group to establish an "open" category for them in some events.

The new policy, which takes effect Monday, will require transgender competitors to have completed their transition by age 12 to be able to compete in women's competitions. The working group will spend the next six months to determine how to set up the new open category, FINA said.

Good, the primary (if not only) victim when a male competes in a female sport, are females. Talk about an issue for Women's Rights organizations.

Transgender cyclists take gold AND silver medals at Chicago women's race
Two transgender cyclists have taken the top spots on the podium at the Chicago CycloCross Cup after triumphing in a women's race.
Tessa Johnson, 25, won first place in the women's SingleSpeed while Evelyn Williamson, 30, placed second in the race on October 7.
The transgender pair made headlines earlier this year for sweeping the competition at several women's races amid debate over the inclusion of transgender athletes in women's sports.
In the women's SingleSpeed race, Johnson took the gold and Williamson took silver, leaving only one biological female on the podium, Allison Zmuda, who won bronze.
Johnson also placed first in the women's Cat Half, winning $150 in prize money. Williamson placed fourth in that race, receiving a $75 prize.
