Trump brings in some number of voters that are unreachable without him. I think he also repels some number of voters who are also repelled by the shitty dems (e.g., like me).

Question is - which is a bigger constituency?

He's a force in terms of personal influence - truly impressive.

Not sure about that. If those voters were given a choice between someone without the "force of nature" as you described him, and someone who's a rather bland Democrat (think Pence), do you really think they'd vote Democrat?

Obviously I don't have that much insight into how the GOP works, but wouldn't a ticket like Haley/C. Owens work? Owens would bring in the Trump votes as basically a younger and better looking version of him. Haley would be the adult in the room for the policy decisions and to win the moderate republicans over. A ticket with two young females, including a black one, would make the GOP even win in the "diversity" bruhaha battle.

At some point the GOP needs to move beyond Trump the man and focus on the policies. I'm hoping that point is now.

          I think they don’t vote.

            That's a strong possibility.

Pence, really? Independently of his positions, he doesn't strike me as a person who has the kind of charisma to win over a lot of people.

True, he is about as dry a politician as they come, and one that has perfected the art of smiling and not saying the wrong thing. Very boring. I'm not saying I want him to run, but would prefer him to many of the candidates we often see at GOP primaries. I would enjoy watching Chris Christie in the office though, reminds me of what I'd imagine presidents around 1900 were like... fat and loud.

That's what I was getting as well some. Some portion of people who don't give a shit about politics otherwise without Trump.

That's fine. As long as it's not Trump.

                      It may well be.

He would be very hard to beat in the primaries.
