The decal is definitely that of an older Petrof. I suspect it might have multiple issues. And probably a Detoa action, that looks like it was carved by skilled stone masons. But I always thought they made one of the best sounding small grands and their 5'10" ( which is kinda what this looks like) can be a very nice sounding piano.

I suppose it could be part of a large estate situation that the kids just don't want to mess with it. I had to get rid of my dad's Marshall and Wendell reproducing player grand and a big honking Wurlitzer theater style organ. I think I got $800 for the piano and had to give away the organ. It was harder than I thought.

This is the note with the Petrof... "Am blessing someone with this petrof grand piano due to lack of space to occupy 2 grand pianos in my new home. Got this for my late mom on her last birthday and her last wish was to give it out to piano enthusiast after her demise."

@kluurs where do you live, hopefully near Minneapolis?

I played a Petrof one time at a piano store (man years ago) and was blown away at how good it was. As a 100% n00b, I will judge a piano by how clear/beautiful the lowest octave sounds.

Yeah, but even if it’s just a shell, a rebuilder would buy it for $2K unless there’s a crack in the plate or rim separation…

Petrof made dramatic improvements in the last 20 years. My reaction to playing one has always been "meh". Rather unrefined, coarse instruments. Better bang for the buck elsewhere. But recently I tried a few ones that blew me away at that price point.

Early ones had a problem with inner rims warping and delaminating from the outer rim.
