Caryn Elaine Johnson says the Holocaust was not racist

@89th said in Caryn Elaine Johnson says the Holocaust was not racist:
This is what happens when you have "celebrities" being paid to speak about topics they know nothing about. Let me hear folks like Hitchens or Peterson debate any day.
The View is just the worst show imaginable. It reminds me of awful family get togethers where Aunties start going on about stuff they know nothing about and you just can't escape because it's raining so hard and you're at your grandmothers and there's nowhere to go.
Actually, that might be just me remembering scenes from my childhood.

Goldberg has been suspended for two weeks.
Interesting.
First of all, it seems that ABC is not in favor of free speech, which this, repugnant as it was, certainly is. I'm not sure I'd even classify it as "hate speech", whatever that is. Nevertheless, it's (almost) nice to see the left eat its own.
At least for two weeks.
Which brings me to the second point. I assume this suspension is supposed to be a punishment for being (more) obnoxious (than usual). If that's the case, how does this actually hurt Goldberg? Does anyone think that she'll miss two weeks' salary, assuming she's not getting paid?
OTOH, this story is ALL over the front page of all media outlets, and "There's no such thing as bad publicity," right? The cynical side of me says this is a gold mine for ABC. People who never watched this hen-fest will be curious as to what all the fuss is about.
Thirdly, speaking of hen-fest, why has there never been a male host on The View? Why is ABC opposed to gender diversity. I think a male would be a great addition.
I nominate @Jolly , assuming he could stand being with those horrible shrews for 5 hours a week.

The two-week suspension is just them trying to say 'well we did something' - it seems more than a bit childish.
Why not just introduce a Naughty Chair?
They'd really be better off examining and discussing why Whoopi Goldberg believes this about race, because I think it's indicative of a larger issue, particularly in America, where people frequently seem to think of race as being binary. You're either black, or white, with a quiet shout-out for 'Hispanic', which doesn't even mean what it says.

Indeed. Look at the current VEEP, and 44. Both of them, as @89th frequently pointed out, are half-white.

Kamala isn't half white. Isnt' her mother a tamil, and her father Afro-caribbean?
But people saying she is proves my point.

He mother is a tamil
Is that a race, or an ethnic group?
(there you go, more binary thinking)

Well, Indians clearly aren't white.

Of course not.
And that's where your point about binary-ism is valid.
They're not negroid, either. Mongoloid, perhaps?

Some snark from the RWEC:
Suspended for what? Being an idiot? They’ve kept Goldberg on the air for almost 15 years on The View despite the general idiocy and mean-girl aesthetic that permeates the show. (They don’t have a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio of progressives to conservatives for nothing, after all.) ...The environment is so demeaning to any heterodox position that the producers are finally having trouble finding a conservative woman willing to play the role of Christian in the Colosseum.
This smells like cancel culture, punishing an opinionator for opining. If not that, it’s at least a kind of moral cowardice among ABC network execs who were willing to turn a blind eye to the bullying and vacuousness at The View until they themselves were personally offended by it. Now, suddenly, Goldberg has to get punished for stupidity, mainly because either (a) she pissed off the executives at the network personally, or (b) she’s being offered as a kind of sacrifice to deflect attention from the utter moral failure of The View. There’s no real option (c) here.
And the best:
Perhaps this spectacular intellectual and moral implosion will remind many of them that there are better ways to spend an hour. Just staring out the window at the weather for an hour would be less dangerous to the intellect.
