Guy on the right (Chaffee) was in my fraternity house at Purdue, some 30 years before me. I actually lived in his very room during my sophomore year.

I remember reading Gus Grissom’s book from the school library then learning a short time later on the news that he was one of those killed. I think I was in grade 8.

And the problems that caused the accident are so obvious after the fact.

Now, everyone knows about the O2 atmosphere and the hatch. Before the accident the smartest guys in the world were positive they were doing the right thing.
