If you could design a restaurant around any theme or decor, what would you choose?

Secondly, does a decor theme have to agree with the menu?

Nobody ever did it better than the French.

And yes, unless you want to be quirky, the menu and decor should be at least complimentary.

That said, the newer fast casual places just have to be modern with images that reflect the food and/or the culture behind it. The other day we went to Paris Banh Mi, a new small chain that reflects the French influence on Vietnamese food. Great sandwiches, etc, pastries, teas. Modern, very little decor, but everyone working there was Vietnamese. Interesting.

Thought of this because of the caboose thread the other day...Years ago I ate at a Victoria Station in Houston.

VS was good. I frequently ate lunch there. Chicken picatta was I think $5. Decor was nice. Along those lines I also liked Bahama Breeze, but the decor was better than the food.

My favorite place ever was The Maisonette. Sadly it is long gone, a standard of cuisine, service and decor that was unmatched. I wish i could find good pictures that really captured its elegance.
