So I was just a toddler when this interview happened, but I have to admit watching it even reminds me a bit of the pre-internet days. Specifically, the banter was a little more professional, witty, intellectual, and not focused around 10-second promo clips to go viral. Also, if Bob had said something "cancel" worthy (not that he did), back then you didn't have to worry about the whole world knowing about it in a matter of seconds. Heck, you could get away with murder on TV and have the night to sleep and think of your escape.

I stopped watching talk shows when Carson retired in 1991 (?). Leno was OK, I guess, but not the same. Never cared for Letterman's snarkiness.
Carson was the master. He made everyone feel comfortable and at home, which is interesting, considering what a private (and some say mean) individual he was.

Yes, I watched a lot of Carson during the 70s and 80s. I never really watched any of his successors.
Part of that was due to parenthood and more of an old man schedule.
