So it seems the government is giving 4 free at-home tests to every residential address in the US. Costs about $4 billion total for the program, which includes about 500 million tests total.

Orders can start tomorrow at COVIDtests.gov

Anyway... I don't think the website will have the issues that obamacare's website did, since the website idea here seems pretty simple: Allow every address to order 4 kits and I'd imagine, once an address has been used, the website will flag it as no longer valid for future orders. Heck, I'm sure Klaus or other IT folks here could've build this site over the weekend.

    Other observations/predictions:

I wonder if people taking kits from other people's mailboxes will be a thing in the near future. I could see that... illegal or not, using someone else's address and then swooping in to take it once delivered?

I wonder how delayed some kits might be.

Might see a big uptick in cases reported if everyone has the ability to test easily.

Anyway... I think it's a good, simple program that spends $4 billion much more effectively than supporting Johnny sitting on the couch when he could be working a job.

The test is only as good as the sample.

You know there’s no reporting mechanism, right?

          Unless they’ve changed that?

            From the web site:

Every home in the U.S. can soon order 4 free at-home COVID-19 tests. The tests will be completely free—there are no shipping costs and you don’t need to enter a credit card number.

I'm not sure they understand the idea of completely free.

            Someone will pay.

Interesting, maybe it's just to help folks know if/when they should get a real test or at the minimum limit exposure to others.

True, would be nice if they referenced it being taxpayer funded, just to remind folks.

Well the website now has a link to order your free 4 tests. But it takes you to a USPS site to fill out (which I did). As expected, you cannot submit again for the same address.

I had no intention of ordering any, but Karla did yesterday. She’s planning on sending them down to Lucas since he is supposed to test anytime he has a close contact on campus. With 3000 kids, that’s going to be every day…

The university should be providing tests. My daughter's does.

I just ordered my 4 free tests.

Thanks to those of you who pay taxes.

I already had my free tests. Got them a few weeks ago...
