Gain of Function

I’ve not had my coffee yet, can somebody interpret all of that for me? It looks pretty serious…
wrote on 11 Jan 2022, 13:37 last edited by@lufins-dad here it is, in a nutshell: DARPA said this engineering is too close to gain-of-function work, and they declined the proposal. Someone else (EcoHealth) picked it up. SARS-CoV-2 WAS developed at Wuhan Institute of Virology by EcoHealth Alliance.
There's more in the long PDF, but that's the gist.

Thanks!
Surprised NYT didn’t follow up on this… They had the documents.

It's in the same pile being worked on by the Hunter Biden Investigative Team.

Is this genuine? Some of the grammar looks a little 'unofficial'.

Daszak's coronavirus grant was rejected by Pentagon over ‘gain of function’ concerns a year before pandemic
Jerry Dunleavy
October 4, 2021The Pentagon's research and development arm rejected a multimillion-dollar proposal by EcoHealth Alliance’s Peter Daszak in 2018 over concerns the experiments involved gain-of-function research and “could have put local communities at risk.”

We're only in year 2 of 5 to unravel this shit.
At which point, Biden will simply say, "at this point, what difference does it make?"

Maybe he'll say they were very good people, too.

He probably would. He lied about it in the past, after all.

My point was that the 'At this point, what difference does it make' is something that is taken out of context, just as Trump's statement was.
For some inexplicable reason, many folks only seem to get upset about one of those pieces of dishonesty.

The use of English is what makes me suspicious. There's a lot of techno-babble in there, but then it says "The reasons why nonpharmaceutical interventions like masks and medical countermeasures like the mRNA vaccines do not work..." - it struck me that the use of 'like' was a bit informal. At least, it wouldn't make it through my tech review (I can get pretty pedantic). Also, the fact that they raise the two political hot potatoes of masks and vaccines as being ineffective was a bit weird.

Could be. But the stuff about the gain of function, written by a DARPA guy, is that BS as well? And this is written to the DoDIG.
Here's what EcoHealth proposed in 2018:
IOW - they were going to cripple the virus to prevent an outbreak...and then whoopsie.
