And both countries have a higher vaccination rate than the UK.

It's all those damned vaxxed people!

I don’t think it’s as simple as vaxxed or unvaxxed this time round. In some ways we’re back to square one albeit we’re more experienced than when the first two waves hit. Will have to see how this plays out with our health care systems. Mild or severe it’s going to be all about numbers.

Received my third Pfizer shot last Saturday. Regardless, I fully expect to be infected this time round given the infectiousness of this particular mutation.

        Elbows up!

I'm just hoping that being vaccinated reduces the severity of the illness, as appears to be case until now. That should hopefully reduce the chances of the health systems becoming overwhelmed.

My nephew's just tested positive - he already had it last summer, and now he's got it again, although the symptoms seem pretty mild.

Getting vaccinated is what we'd call in my work 'due diligence'. There's no guarantee of safety, but you're doing what you can to reduce the risk to yourself and others.

Political point-scoring and posturing aside, I haven't seen a single reasonable argument against getting vaccinated for those who are able to.

This isn't rocket science. It's not even political science.

                  No, but I can google

                  CDC has some reasons: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/recommendations/essentialworker/workplace-vaccination-program.html

                  But CDC isn't very trustworthy

Nor is much else that a person can apparently Google on the subject.

Didn't have to. Tachycardia, A-fib and blood clots are side effects of the vaccine.

Yeah, but not exactly a good reason to stay unvaccinated.

I realise this has become heavily politicised, but it really shouldn't be. There's no good reason that I'm aware of not to get the shot. Both my kids are vaccinated, as are both their parents.

You know what all the people posting comparisons with WW2 should note?

                                  How fucking stupid we've become.

Anybody who compares the holocaust with wearing a mask shouldn't be allowed out on their own.

Anybody who spends hours of their day trying to undermine efforts to vaccinate the population is either an imbecile, or an arsehole. Quite possibly both.

800,000 dead Americans, and we're worrying about the vaccine?

It's not the vaccine that's killing people.

                                  I was only joking

There's quite a few good reasons not to get vaxxed, usually revolving around vaccine side effects or religious exemptions. And as Omicron is proving, being vaxxed is not preventing people from catching the disease or passing it on. It does look like being vaxxed can reduce the severity of symptoms in the latest variant, which is a good thing.

But right now, I think I heard we are approaching 2000 variations of the virus, albeit most of them not very different. As time passes, there will be many, many more variants. We could be literally taking boosters every thirty days.

At what time do we quit ostracizing people for not taking the vaccine?

Yes, I’ve heard that. I’ve also heard that in some cases there are no known side effects. My three shots made me want to take afternoon naps.

I don’t usually like to nap in the daytime.

Quite honestly I’ve become nihilistic and without empathy.

No vaxx? I hope the regret you feel in the ICU won’t be too unbearable.

And by the way, I really don’t know of any substantiated case of people dropping dead after a vaccination. From the amount I read on Twitter, it’s a miracle any of us are still alive. Almost a pandemic of sudden deaths.

Indeed. However, I believe it was Japan that instituted a warning for the Pfizer vaccine regarding an increased risk of myocarditis.

In the context of lives saved, I'd say it's a minuscule difference.
