Heat pump and blower….

So last week I get the wonderful news that rather than use the company we normally use to service the HVAC, my wife saved $75 by using a company that had left a “coupon” in our mailbox. Yaayyyy! But unfortunately, they found that our furnace desperately needed replacement! Oh no! Why look at all of the rusty bolts they found inside! Amazing how these parts developed 5 years of rust over 1 year… Well, at least we saved the $75
… And, they were going to replace the system for thousands less than any other company… The system started making funny noises after they were done, too.
I called the regular guys and they came out and while we can’t prove that these guys messed with the system, it needs work now…
Here’s the thing, the furnace/blower is original and really is at an age that it should have been replaced, but it was still going well enough that my guys had thought we could wait a few more years… but now it’s going to take about $700 to put into it to keep it up and running or we can replace it now… Sigh…
So any thoughts on Lennox vs Amana vs American Standard?

Hate when crap like this happens. Scammers everywhere. I haven't had any first hand experience with furnaces since 1997 as I am a boiler man now. lol
Found this. Maybe it will be useful.

I'd suggest replacing it, if you plan on being there for a while. Might as well if it's at the replacement age and you're about to drop bitcoin on some maintenance anyway.
BTW that sucks, at least you saved $75.
Total side note, I always hate the coupons that say "Reference this $200 coupon at time of estimate!" (umm yeah, so you can inflate the estimate by $200)

One home I owned had a Carrier heat pump. Piece of crap.
Another home had Rheem and lasted 20+ years before replacement. Pretty much trouble free till the end of its life.
Last year, I replaced my Goodman heat pump of 15 years with another one. Went with the same brand as I never had any issues with the original. Only thing I did different was increase the tonnage from 2 tons to 2 1/2 tons and increased the Seer rating from 8 to 16. Big difference in the monthly electric bill.

Trustworthy > cheap when it comes to work that is (1) essential and (2) a knowledge black hole. Sorry about your experience, we had pretty much the same happen to us two years back. IIRC we went with Am. Standard.

For furnace (natural gas, forced hot air), I have a 10+ year old Goodman unit that's still working well. (Knock on wood.) The air "blower" is part of this unit.
For air conditioning (cooling), I have a Rheem system that is fairly new.
For hot water (natural gas), I have a 10+ year Bradford-White unit that's still working well. (Knock on wood.)

Well, it looks like Santa is bringing us a new Lennox system. Installation is on the 29th. The current system is running too inefficiently now. It's been switching over to auxiliary heat at night...I really would have preferred to wait another year but...
We went ahead and purchased through Costco as I just don't have the time to dedicate to finding the best possible deal...
