I'm not an economist, however it seems to me that it's a worrying sign that with the exception of Washington and Boeing, not a single state is dominated by a company that actually builds anything.

Healthcare and education don’t scale as well as manufacturing so it would be natural for them to grow in employment relative to the other sectors. (See Baumol’s cost disease)
