One shot, one kill

A deer has to be taken with one shot.
Well done, niece

My 11 year-old niece killed her first deer this morning, a basket-rack 8. One shot.
207 yards.
@jolly Wow! That is quite a long shot!! What type of gun is used to shoot that?

In her case, a CVA Hunter Compact.

Hers is chambered for .243 Winchester (that's a .308 necked down to .243). Most common bottleneck deer cartridges will take deer at 250-300 yards, if sighted an inch or two inches high at 100 yards. That's assuming that the person doing the shooting can get a decent rest or shoot from the prone position (and can actually shoot).
She was hunting from a box stand, so she had a decent rest. Still, a pretty good shot for an eleven year-old.
