2021 is as distant from 1980 as 1980 is from 1939.

    You’re welcome.

When I was a kid, I remember that there was a TV series called "40 years ago", where they'd show the news of that week 40 years ago. I believe it ran from '79 to '85 and hence covered WW2. I liked that show, even though I was little.

These year comparisons are always cool and freaky. I've mentioned before (without specifics) I was born about 10 years after the moon landing. But to me, it's always felt like a history-book thing. Well, my kids were born 17 and 19 years after 9/11. Heck even Obama's election is further away to them than the moon landing was to me.

I remember pointing out to my Dad (b 1930) that WW-II was as temporally distant to my son (b 2009) as the Civil War was to his birth.

Grandpa Jolly didn't get electricity until after my dad graduated from high school. In fact, just a few years before I was born. At that time, some people still logged with horses down here and my family ran their stock on open range.

I still have the family cattle brand and our earmark was two slits and an underbit. I also have Grandpa's cotton scales. There's a reason I know why broadaxe handles are crooked, what steel makes the best froe, how to split rails and why you bring a piece of string or cloth to tie up a hog's anus.

And some of y'all are older than me...😄😄

"Smells Like Teen Spirit" was released 30 years ago. "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" was released 28 years before that. I don't think we're getting another one of those.
