If you open this link, does a bunch of JavaScript code appear?

Is the Twitter embed broken, or is it me?
You've always been broken, George. Even when the embed was working for you.
-
Not reproducible here either.
@George-K try the usual cleanse like clear all cache and restart your browser application and see if that helps..wrote on 3 May 2021, 15:59 last edited by@axtremus said in Forum Issues:

Did that. No joy.
The interesting thing is that it's occurring on 4 different browsers, including Brave, which I've never used.

Well, this is interesting. I was connected via a VPN, and when I disabled it, the Twitter embed worked.
How's that?

I just posted this so I could get down to the latest posts.

I got rid of PIA when it expired. It was aptly named.

OK, we are now on the latest version of NodeBB.
I'm not sure whether anything directly visible to users has changed.
Let me know if something doesn't work anymore.

I don't work anymore. I retired in 2016.

I've updated the forum and we are now on NodeBB 1.17.2. Let me know if you experience any (new) problems.

I'm going to update to the latest NodeBB version. If everything goes well, it should only require a minute of downtime or so.

For some unknown reason my MacBook Pro running the latest version of MacOS cannot post the to the forum as a new topic or a reply.
I always receive an error but with no detailed information about the error.
I know this is not something that has to do with the forum at all.
It's just reinforces my opinion that Apple sucks. lol

Yes, though I suspect it's not specific to our particular server, but general between us in the USA and that server farm in Germany. I get slow response even when I access the server control panel that is presumably hosted in the same server farm but separately from our nodeBB server. "Ping" suggests a 2.5% packet drop rate, not too too bad, but ideally I would like to see < 1%.
What else I have noticed lately is that it gets slow when loading media files uploaded by users. Loading nodeBB/TNCR pages are fine but when the pages have embedded media files, that's when things slow down.
Can't say I find a pattern to this. I tried matching it against backup schedule but there does not seem to be much of a match there. :man-shrugging:

Can't reproduce. Forum looks snappy.
Just for the heck of it, I'm going to "turn it off and turn it on". Maybe that'll help.

I have noticed it from time to time mostly when loading images.

Is the "spoiler" thingie broken?
:::
Because I can't seem to get it to hide something.

Indeed, looks like it is. Opening the spoiler seems to even crash the forum script in the browser.
Must have been one of the recent forum updates. Sigh.
