Then there is no reason to elect or change leaders of any country, is it? We're all on autopilot and nothing ever makes a difference.

Let me ask you, do you think President Obama did a good job with the economy?

I think Mr. Obama did a good job trying to sink 1/7 of it.

But in your scenario, it doesn't matter...Obama has little or no effect.

I never said that they have no effect, but I do think (like Xenon says better than I) that their effect is not as much as people think (and not as much as they themself think).

I do agree with your point that you make in a later post that the President can make people feel better about the economy and that can help (or hurt) the economy. (Hopefully I interpret your meaning correctly).

Maybe this is a bad example, but imagine that it is 15 C out.

For people who are in favor of President Trump, it is sunny, blue sky, puffy white clouds. Just seems like a nice day.

For people who are anti President Trump, it is still 15 C out, but it is gloomy and cloudy, there are dark clouds, etc.

One day feels better/worse than the other, but the reality is that it is the same day.

Pelosi of course made a big negative deal of Trump taking hydroxycloroquine.
Trump decided to stop taking it based on her advice, and is switching to botox as soon as she tells him about dosage.

          No kidding. It's a fact.

Isn't it funny how the "my body, my choice" people are reacting to this?

The fallacy in 89th's assertion is that the federal government does not impose shutdowns. The states do. Can you imagine if Trump had done that unilaterally? He'd not be just Hitler, but Hitler squared!

Had he encouraged states to, or even taken the deadliness off the virus seriously, some states may have shut down earlier than they did. Most waited until the last week of March.

And if pigs had wings.... you want to make him responsible for something not in his power to do. The states had to come to the realization on their own time in order to get public cooperation. This is not the PRC.

I’m not saying he’s responsible, I’m saying had he not downplayed the seriousness of the virus so much, it could’ve helped in preventing tens of thousands of deaths. Studies confirm this, and Trump’s own words are clearly on the record.

Is everybody forgetting how we were warned that H1N1 was going to be catastrophic and would fundamentally change our nation? How did that go? Remember how Avian Flu was going to be a disaster of epic proportions? I do. Ebola was coming. We spent three days watching the news and debating on whether those healthcare workers should be allowed back in the US. Over and over again there have been media panic attacks over this kind of crap. Eventually people tune Chicken Little out. There was no way any state was going to take serious action until they could clearly see this was happening.

Trump took appropriate actions when it was appropriate to take. He's had his high points and he's had his low points. His low points do not include him pointing out that it's not as serious as the media is portraying a lot of this, because he's not wrong. It's not the end of the world. Will Smith is not going to be left alone in New York to try to discover a vaccine while horrible mutants hunt at night. Mel Gibson won't be driving around in a souped up muscle car fighting off chainsaw wielding bandits in the desert wastelands of Ohio.

This is serious fvcking business, but by pushing this narrative too far, people are rebelling and are losing faith and trust in the media and public officials.

                              I'll say it again.

If he caused premature deaths by waiting too long

He certainly saved lives by not waiting even later

I want to hear about the lives saved

Otherwise this is just political nonsense

Now you're moving the goalposts from encouraging states to lock down to taking it more seriously.
