Kiddo is having surgery in a few weeks. We'll go to help her. She has no car, the hospital is two hours from her place, and she really needs family for the recovery phase.

Talked to the Mayo doc who's the regional COVID guy, and he said to drive to minimize exposure. Said not to fly. Asked about train travel, but he's not sure that would be much better than plane for exposure.

So glad I insisted on buying the air mattresses last year. We'll stay in her second bedroom, right down the hall from her bedroom. I can check on her as needed, even at night.

We don't plan vacations. We just go when we feel like we need a break. My niece is getting married in TX this fall. I guess the virus and will dictate if we attend. I am thinking not.

Traveling in sleeper from Minnesota to Oregon should be pretty safe. Everyone's required to wear a mask if they leave their room. Meals are now served in your sleeper accommodation, rather than the dining car. Your only exposure would be in the stations and boarding.

However, with only a few weeks' lead time, fares are probably pretty high.

$711 for two adults from St. Paul to Portland for two adults on June 1.

And no, I would never do coach for a trip like that.

Damn straight. Likely roll down a window, maybe two.

Actually, we hoped to take some road trips, kinda like Mark, just head out in a general direction. Utah monuments would be fantastic, maybe head north towards Glacier Nat'l Park. Who knows, like everyone else we will need to find out how open open is.

My mother and I were planning a trip to Japan to see the cherry blossoms in March, and there was a summer trip to Mexico as a graduation gift for my goddaughter. But, like the rest of you, that's all cancelled.

Our Japan trip's on hold also. 😕

Did not. And I bought on a boutique French airline that has 2 planes and one route.

                        VRBO gave me full refund.

That’s Paris. Greece hadn’t been booked yet.

                        Only non-witches get due process.

Yes got a refund on a hotel (Marriott) even though it was via a non-refundable reservation.

I booked our hotels in New Orleans and San Francisco on points - they were refunded immediately. Those were at the Ritz-Carlton in both cities (Marriott points).
The hotel in Oregon took a 1 night's cost as a deposit. It was refunded to my credit card in 4 days.
Our train tickets were booked on points as well. Amtrak used to have a policy that if you cancelled there was a 10% cancellation fee. In the face of the virus, that penalty has been waived. All my points were refunded immediately.

We normally go to France during the last 2 weeks of August. Heard the French government still thinks about restricting the movement of the French themselves within France for the entire summer, so not sure if they’ll let foreign tourists in...

Maybe it's the year to rent a RV? Some of the smaller ones are very easy to drive. If you're comfortable driving a larger one, a Class A can be a home in wheels.

Oh, I forgot. I'll be driving a moving truck down to North Carolina first of July or so to help move daughter. She'll have crews on either end to load and unload.

Some of the Class C's have slideouts and are easier to maneuver. Might be fun for two.

Maybe it's the year to rent a RV? Some of the smaller ones are very easy to drive. If you're comfortable driving a larger one, a Class A can be a home in wheels.

                                        We did this several times.

Mrs. George's been talking about that for a while. I got pretty good at handling a 37 foot Class A, though.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Oh, I forgot. I'll be driving a moving truck down to North Carolina first of July or so to help move daughter. She'll have crews on either end to load and unload.
