"At age 89, Manfred Steiner has earned his Ph.D. in physics from Brown University.

"It's my third doctorate, but this one I really cherish a lot. That I made it — and made it at this age," said Steiner, who is weeks from turning 90, in an interview with NPR.

"I am really on top of the world," Steiner said.

I've toyed a couple of times with the idea of a second PhD - and never got anywhere - but three is pretty extreme. Very cool!

Yes, it is. This was a story with no downsides, no corruption or tragedy, didn't produce any sort of anxiousness, didn't relate any of the shitty ways people screw up, didn't enliven our mornings with any of the hundreds of ways that life sucks, but I figured what the hell, give it a shot.

Hell, I struggled helping my son with his first year college work. Nice going.

          I was only joking

What does the repayment schedule look like for his student loan?

89 year old white male gets third PhD in physics. Maybe we should do some math: A man born to systemic privilege and supremacy earned one PhD per 29.67 years of his coddled effort-free life. And we're all going gaga over it.

Meanwhile, I know a 27 year old woman of color who got a PhD in LatinX Studies. That's one PhD per 27 years. And literally nobody cares.

Very cool! I wonder if he will miss the process and mental stimulation. He should go for number four. He must enjoy this, and it's good for his brain and health.

I wonder if he's a retired prof there. Some institutions allow retirees to take courses for no fee. Perhaps that's been a key to his additional doctorates.

My brother has a Phud. My brother is a weird socially awkward goofball. Seems to be a common affliction among Phuds.

I know way too many PhDs to consider them anything other than normal. I should check my privilege.

It is a privilege if you don't have to deal with many PhDs in your life. You are a victim.

The plan is to bounce the cheque on the undertaker.
