Allen West is running for Governor in Texas, he's unvaccinated, and has contracted COVID-19.

But hey, he's taking hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin.

His body, his choice. And, he's not affecting anyone else.

        Aw, c'mon, man! C'mon!

        Read the thread. But...

        Screen Shot 2021-10-10 at 5.23.54 PM.png

        From the RWEC:

He campaigns on medical freedom and often says he won’t participate in enriching Big Pharma. Where does he think that antibody infusion comes from?

If West wants to reject the COVID-19 vaccine, that’s his choice. Other conservatives do, as well as some in the Democrat Party, like a disproportionately large percentage of African-Americans. Being vaccinated gives people a chance to avoid hospitalization and more severe cases of COVID-19. If West wants to boast about having antibodies now to fight COVID-19 he can but he also received an infusion to supply those antibodies to his system, which not every non-vaccinated person will have access to.

I will defend (though not respect) his choice. It's totally up to him (other than the possibility of infecting others, of course), but this kind of rhetoric is just plain stupid and ignorant.

          Idiot.

Not getting vaccinated does affect others if the ICU's become filled and other people's treatment is affected, and the medical centers are swamped.

            I was only joking

Of course. I sort of meant to imply that his illness will NOT not have an impact on others. My bad.

Whenever politicians start talking about 'Big Pharma' you know that any chance of sensible debate is gone.

Presumably, he's a defender of 'Small Pharma'? Does he support the rights of people to cook up stuff in their garage?

What about 'Intermediate Pharma', I wonder? A couple of guys who discovered something in the kitchen, and then get a patent?

How is the startup Moderna “big pharma” but the multi-billion dollar Regeneron not?

Probably a failure of my own imagination

@jon-nyc said in Allen West, running for Texas Governor, unvaccinated, and has COVID-19:

How is the startup Moderna “big pharma” but the multi-billion dollar Regeneron not?

Probably a failure of my own imagination

                                  Snort. From the RWEC:

West’s opinion would be easier to digest if he weren’t also promoting folk remedies alongside legit antivirals, though, and if he hadn’t argued yesterday, incoherently, that he prefers antibody treatments to the vaccine because vaccine sales benefit Big Pharma. Who does he think is making the antibody treatments, Santa’s elves?

I’m also trying to parse the logic of believing the vaccines are “dangerous” while calling for them to be given to illegal immigrants.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

To his credit, though, he didn't put Spike Protein in scare-quotes.

You'd lose your money. I met the man once when I was on the National Mall (downtown DC). I was manning a water station for a running group and he was out for his morning jog. I offered him some water but he said he doesn't believe in dihydrogen monoxide.

(That is a true story, except for the last sentence)
