Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine antibodies disappear in many by 7 months

Six months after receiving the second dose of the two-shot vaccine from Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE, many recipients no longer have vaccine-induced antibodies that can immediately neutralize worrisome variants of the coronavirus, a new study suggests. Researchers analyzed blood samples from 46 healthy, mostly young or middle-aged adults after receipt of the two doses and again six months after the second dose. "Our study shows vaccination with the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine induces high levels of neutralizing antibodies against the original vaccine strain, but these levels drop by nearly 10-fold by seven months" after the initial dose, Bali Pulendran of Stanford University and Mehul Suthar of Emory University said by email. In roughly half of all subjects, neutralizing antibodies that can block infection against coronavirus variants such as Delta, Beta, and Mu were undetectable at six months after the second dose, their team reported on Thursday on bioRxiv https://bit.ly/3A4p1z0 ahead of peer review. Neutralizing antibodies are not the immune system's only defense against the virus. Still, they "are critically important in protecting against SARS-CoV-2 infection," said Pulendran and Suthar. "These findings suggest that administering a booster dose at around 6 to 7 months following the initial immunization will likely enhance protection against SARS-CoV-2 and its variants."

If immunity lasts for more than 4 months, seek medical attention immediately.

We’ll see what happens with a the booster

I’m part of long running serology study at our institution, I get antibodies checked once a month. It’s been three months and I’m still way high.

            We shall see.

Quoted for posterity - for use in another future thread.

You got the Pfizer, right? And a booster?

Any idea how others are faring wrt antibodies?

What goes up must come down. Booster effect kicking in on delta

I just asked a few people I know who are also being followed, we are all more or less vaccinated at the same time and have similar antibody levels. Including booster.

All Pfizer. We r Pfizer’s test country, remember.

7% of Israel’s serious COVID cases had three vaccine shots

Some 7% of Israel’s serious and critical COVID-19 cases were vaccinated with three shots of the coronavirus vaccine, according to data released Friday morning by the Health Ministry.
However, the number of new daily cases is declining and the government voted to roll out the Green Class outline in several green cities on Sunday to help keep children out of isolation.
“I cannot say that 7% is a lot,” Health Minister Director-General Prof. Nachman Ash told The Jerusalem Post. “The vaccine, even the third shot, does not work at 100%. It is 95% effective.
He said that there are also always a small percentage of people for whom the vaccine does not work as well, such as those who are immunosuppressed.
More than three million Israelis have been fully vaccinated with two shots and a booster. There were around 460 serious and critical cases on Friday, so 7% is around 32 people, meaning less than 0.00001% of people who have had a third shot are in serious condition.
“This is even better than we could have expected,” Ash said.
Another 17% were vaccinated with two shots more than six months ago, according to the data.
