    Amen, Governor Burgum.

Based on that thinking everyone should always wear a mask everywhere, all the time, forever.

There is a limit, don't be afraid to discuss it.

Virtue is not the reason, it just won't sell, people will recognize it and reject it.

He lacked the political courage even to ask people to wear masks. His emotional plea was to not hate others for wearing masks. I wasn't even aware that that was a thing - hating people for wearing masks. I guess probably nazis would hate people for wearing masks, or maybe KKK members.

Yes wear a damn mask when interacting with others inside. I don’t think I’ll be wearing one in a car or when out exercising.

              Mask not worn:

              1. In my car
              2. In my house
              3. On my thrice-weekly walk. When I encounter someone, we move about 10 feet apart.

              Mask worn:

              1. Post Office
              2. Grocery Store
              3. Any other store that I might encounter someone.

Is it effective? Hell if I know. But, it wouldn't hurt, amirite?

I also get it that some folks are going to have a harder time wearing them. And it's not like wearing a mask is less of a pain in the ass, for anybody. But the concept isn't political and I'm tired of the fuckery. They help prevent the spread.

It wasn't sarcastic, he genuinely lacked the political courage to implore people to wear masks. He clearly wants that but his political calculus had him swinging away at the straw man about people who hate others for wearing masks. Who I imagine don't much exist.

Not hate, but it's definitely political. For many on both sides, it's become a form of virtue signaling because we're so insane that we care more about team affiliation than we do basic public safety.

Since nobody here is advocating against masks (though some, myself included, aren't much interested in piling on with the sneering condescension towards those who aren't enthusiastic about wearing them), I do wonder how many folk out there have a "political" reaction against them. I suppose some people just don't want to bother with this risk mitigation which remains unquantified and unquantifiable, at least for now. But laziness is not politics, it's just laziness.

Yes, that is exactly the reason masks won't be worn.

The argument is all about virtue and emotion.

                              How many deaths?

                              How long?

What triggers the end of mandatory masks?

When is it OK to not wear masks? Why?

Why only wear masks for covid-19?

Why not make masks mandatory until all communicable diseases are gone?

Sorry, but none of the correct answers to those questions include taking the Lord's name in vain or vulgar language.

Yeah! Let's just wear masks forever.
Think of all the diseases we wouldn't get.
But then again, think of all the diseases we would get, that we otherwise would be immune to.

Solution: Wear the masks for 4-hours on, 2-hours off, daily. Guaranteed that at some point, you would be saved from the Wuhan Flu without even knowing it. Then, you'd get a cold and maybe go feet-up.
But if the government says to do it, this week, then I'll do it because I have confidence in the extraordinary people in government. They are, like, a higher life form, and should not be questioned. They know stuff and junk.

I suppose it's too late to suggest using common sense? Wear a mask at the shops, but not in the house? Wear a mask if you're going to come into close proximity? Basically, what George said.

                                    Other tips:

Don't show up at the beach and go frolicking around like a stupid twat.

Don't get together with 20 friends at the park and play baseball like a stupid twat.

Don't mention the US Constitution when debating whether you should wear mask. It's a sure fire clue that you're a stupid twat.

                                    I was only joking

Or maybe they’ve been imploring mask usage for weeks and now he’s trying to fight an ossifying stigma against usage within a particular political tribe.

Well I am definitely with the governor in his stance against those who want to hate or shame mask wearers. Meanwhile everybody is wearing a mask wherever I go around here, so as usual I am at a loss to personally identify with these political subcultures we discuss so often online. I do understand having a principled reaction against being required by law to wear a mask, though, and can identify with that. Shaming/hating people for wearing masks? Nope, don't really think it's a thing.

It doesn’t have to be verbal shaming or hating. Stigmatization can be more subtle and still be effective. Surely you see that in your own society on other issues.
