Those who cheered as J-6 American prisoners were locked in solitary for 18 months without trial, now suddenly fight tooth and nail for foreign terrorists’ "due process". — Buck Sexton

That's not the "American way of life". It's a way of life for many Americans. That's not the same thing.

That's the American way of life for a huge subset of Americans. A subset that seems like it is growing everyday.

The figures may be off, but people game the system everyday. Back when I used to work around a lot if those folks, if I had a Medicaid or SSI question, I'd ask the patients. They knew the rules better than some of the staff that were trying to help them.

Why work, when you don't have to?

Great argument for a steep wealth tax and high tax rates for the high income — then they will have to keep working or see their wealth erode bigly. Right, right?

It’s only logical. Comprehensively tax all inherited wealth so there would be no “trust fund kids” who can afford to “not work.” Or are you trying to argue that it’s also the American Way that if you have rich parents then it’s OK for you to not work? Now I help you see the light too. You’re welcome.

I've mentioned this before, but this is the classic justification for being a selfish, greedy asshat. Usually it's the Legend of the Millionaire Panhandler but the idea's always the same: don't help anyone, keep your money and live inside your gated communities because there's that one article out there about someone mooching the system and oh how dare they.

                                So be it.

New OB day was Tuesday. We usually had 20 or so come by for their workup. Since the building was a one-stop shop, they could get their labs, see the doc, drop by the MAP (Medicaid Approval Program) offices and stop at the WIC (Women, Infants & Children) Voucher office before they left.

It was a standing joke among the staff that while daddy would often accompany the baby-mama, they were never married and he always had a different address.

You tell me...What's free labs, free doctor visit, free hospital delivery and around $40/month WIC (on top of your foodstamps) worth?

Whatever system is in place, some people will game it.

This is just as true of rich people as it is of poor people, they just game a different system.

Failing to provide protection because some people will take advantage of it isn't a very good justification, and demonizing everybody who is on welfare as a sponger is as predictable as it is wrong.

If you pay my share of the military machine that you love so much, that's fine with me. I'll probably do pretty well out of the deal.

                                        I was only joking
