Just saw the numbers for the local hospitals. Of those hospitalized, about 10% were fully vaccinated.

NYT has a tracker for breakthrough rates with hospitalization rates. It’s continually updated.
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/08/10/us/covid-breakthrough-infections-vaccines.html
It shows 1% for Louisiana, maybe reporting is significantly lagging? We should know in a few days to a week.

The approximately 10% we have jibes with the numbers I hear coming from The Lake and BRG.
I know one of the deaths here, was a 30-something female smoker.

They need to publish the data or it’s anecdotal. No one can react to anecdotal news, it is really not helpful if it remains in an anecdotal format.

@lufins-dad said in 10%:
So 90% were unvaccinated. Ok
The point that @Jolly is making is that it’s not the 1% - 3% being claimed by the CDC, NIH, etc… Jolly’s number also matches what we’ve seen in the UK and Israel.
Correct.

If your claim is that the CDC and NIH are lying well that’s the end of the argument.
If 100% of people are vaccinated then 100% of hospitalizations would be vaccinated people. Remind me again of Israel and UK vaccination rates.

Yes, it's not like the CDC or NIH have told us anything not true during this pandemic.

This is an important website.

The irony reveals itself when you find the people that distrust the CDC and NIH, and ask them what they believe it gets surreal very fast.
But when you cant agree on the veracity of the source of the data there is no argument to be had. None.
We are super close to reaching the end of the internet.

Ok, according to LDH, we currently have 2859 COVID patients in Louisiana hospitals. NYT says 125 of those are vaccinated.
Y'all can do the math. That would give you probably a lower percentage than actually exists, but who's counting?
What it does show is the 1% figure is bullshit, plain and simple.

Okay, it’s wrong. I agree it’s 10%. So what am I supposed to think? I can’t divine your intent. 10% doesn’t register anything for me to think about vaccines differently. Educate me.

I’m being serious…what is the point? Being vaccinated is 8-25x safer than not being vaccinated. Also aren’t the CDC numbers from mid to late July?
To be clear, our population would benefit from a 2x protection, yet they have a 8-25x protection in the vaccine.

It feels like there’s this attempt at not trusting the government because something is only 90% effective and not the 95% or 99% they wish you to think. We are in the middle of the worst pandemic of the last century with a 0% effective vaccine a year ago and a 90-99% effective one now and THIS is the debate beach you’re dying on?

The stupidity of a lot of these arguments is getting pretty depressing.
It feels as though some people almost want another public health disaster to occur, essentially so they can say '...see, look what electing Joe Biden did!'
