Which would be best for a college Freshman? The first year courses are basically Calculus, Chem, Chem Lab, Leadership, and The Vision of Buddhism…
Now, he is taking a pretty frigging powerful PC for his room, and there are multiple computers made available in the various study areas. This will likely need to be just for note taking and likely accessing online libraries, so I don’t really feel the need to break the bank when the bank is already getting broken on everything else… Thoughts?

A Microsoft Surface is a pretty good 2-in-1. Tends to be more computer than tablet, but the functionality is there.

I also have a Surface and love it. Might be overkill for what he needs though. I’d say try the chromebook route if you’re fine with all things Google… Google drive, gmail, chrome, etc.

The school probably recommends something.
Now that I think of it, we are talking about the same school where I asked this question 14 years ago.
I forget the answer, but CNU should have a recommendation.
Just go with it.

As I mentioned, his PC more than covers their recommendations. This is just to have something portable to take to class…

Know any student in the same university that he can ask?
Using only the information given, Microsoft Surface Pro with a Surface Pen (for hand-written note taking) might best fit the bill. Consider installing remote access software on the PC such that he can tap into his PC when needed.
