An (obvious) issue is the USA is a very large country with a very wide range of state-specific response and testing approaches... fitting the curve is an optimistic approach to seeing data fit an imaginary desire.
If you remove those dashed projected lines, what I see is a growth that has stopped growing out of control, but that is now steadily oscillating around the 1,750 deaths per day range.
