New doctors beget better patient outcomes than old doctors. How do the old doctors feel about this?
Did you know a Level 3 trauma center has more patients die within its walls than an urgent care?
Statistic wise, that means you're better off being treated in an urgent care...

The medical care where I live sucks (insert your vulgarism of choice here). One time I used one of those machines in drugstores that measure your vitals. My blood pressure was scarily high. I didn't know what to do. I found an urgent care center and went in and told my story to the young woman at the front desk. She asked, "Do you have an appointment?" I'd have thought the answer to that was obvious, but I answered no. She goes, "I'm sorry, but we can't see you without an appointment." I go, "But this is an urgent care place, right? Like, urgent?" Her: "I'm sorry, but we can't see you without an appointment." I say, "So if I drop dead out here in the parking lot, it will be because I didn't have an appointment?" "I'm sorry, but we can't --" I go, "Yeah, yeah," and left.
And didn't die, no thanks to her.
So I'd take the term 'urgent care' with a wee dram of salt if I were you.

When The Bee bit me a few months ago, I got a nasty infection. I showed up to the closest urgent care and got the same runaround.
Was it that long ago that urgent care places were where you went when something was "urgent" but not worthy of a trip to the ER?

Still is. At least at most of them down here.
In the closest city, we have something fairly new, a pretty much free-standing emergency room. It's like an urgent care on steroids. They see patients that are urgent care, but they also see patients a notch up. The place has a limited menu lab and an x-ray department with a catscan. They will routinely start UV's and hang fluids. They even have a few boarding rooms, where they can keep a patient overnight. Place has at least one physician on grounds, 24/7.
