      Wow... as a 100% novice, I am surprised those planes can still maneuver "so well" (or well enough) while gliding, including the little pitch up at the very end before he touches down.

        Yes, that gets practiced a lot during training.

        As instructor you can reach over and pull the throttle at any time. Then just sit back and enjoy the show.

        While I was training to be an instructor with our chief instructor, he reached over and pulled the throttle during a takeoff. We were maybe 5-10 feet off the ground and he says, you just lost your engine, land straight ahead.

        It was no big deal, but definitely not expected at that point, which is what you are training for.

            I just noticed in the video that he changed his squawk to 7500, he should have used 7700, understandable.

            7500 = hijack
            7700 = emergency

            So now the controller is thinking a hijack is in progress. I wonder how the rescue guys approached the plane, no mention in the video.
