I can sympathize a bit - though I think we've been here before. Whatever you believe - there's someone out there to provide "facts" to demonstrate that you are on the "right path."

Taking an innocuous area of interest, as a runner I'm bombarded with "research has shown" the irrefutable benefits of running - longer life, weight loss, sexier, etc.

If I read books on weight lifting, I find that the true path is not to participate in that totally disproven notion of aerobic activity - which only results in weight gain, injury and wasted time. What "research has shown" is irrefutable evidence that weight lifting will result in a healthier body, weight loss and a sexier physique.

Of course, the dieting community sees is that "research has shown" that exercise is of no consequence to weight loss - that what, when, where we eat is the key.

On FB - one will find tons of people posting photographs of themselves PROVING that whatever it is that they're doing is the "one true" way...

Now, move to issues of consequence and in the Age of Confirmation Bias, it appears less and less effort is toward seeking something resembling truth and more toward the maintenance of established belief. Follow the money. More money is to be made in supporting belief than any sincere attempt at truth.

Probably a good time to be on the side of free speech. I mean, what with the culture aligning against it more and more. Sure would be nice to see some Full Stop sanctimony about that whole thing, from anybody. I'm having to settle for IDW folks, or Glen Greenwald on Twitter.

        Education is extremely important.

The comments are as or more interesting than the article.

              👍 to Kluurs' excellent point.

This may or may not be the 'most fraught' time in our history, but declaring it such is not more than the expression of an opinion. You can agree or disagree with Burns, but there's not much more that you can do with it.
