Wife's podiatrist has a different approach...Get vaccinated and get COVID, he'll pay up to 30 days of salary while you're out sick. Do not get vaccinated and get COVID, no salary while you're out.

My company thought outside the box and told everybody that if they don't provide proof of vaccination, they're fired without severance nor ability to file for unemployment.

It is covered by insurance. The insurers have it all figured out.

No problem with that at all. $2400 seems a bit much, I would like to see the math, but otherwise it’s fine.

I may be wrong about the unemployment bit. But the lack of severance was justified as due to having been fired for cause. Which I thought disallowed unemployment benefits. But I wouldn't be surprised if I'm mistaken about that.

Fired for cause negates unemployment benefits down here.

                  HOLY SHIT! THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Critical nursing shortages around the country. Very pronounced in Texas and Florida.

Many reasons but treating avoidable deaths and serious issues has lead to serious burnout.

Dude...They don't give a shit. Until you turn them away, it's not changing.

Won't happen under this President, but we seriously need to revisit EMTALA.

EMTALA only relates to ability to pay, doesn't it?

The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) is a federal law that requires anyone coming to an emergency department to be stabilized and treated, regardless of their insurance status or ability to pay, but since its enactment in 1986 has remained an unfunded mandate.

stabilized and treated is where I'm going. Too many people think healthcare is an infinite commodity delivered by an inexhaustible supply of trained professionals. COVID vaccination? I don't need vaccinating, even though I understand less than 10% of inpatients with COVID are vaccinated and over 90% are not. I even understand that less than 0.5% of hospital COVID deaths come from vaccinated patients. But that doesn't matter...If I do come down with COVID, even though unvaccinated, I can show up in you ED and I should receive the best care that money and trained staff can deliver.

North Texas Hospital Association has kicked around the idea of including vaccination status in the triage process. Simply, save the people who have the best chance of recovery, all other things being equal. So maybe, just maybe, people might reconsider their stance on healthcare, if they know it may not be there for them when they really, really need it.

Over 10,000 treated in Florida so far...

                          https://miami.cbslocal.com/2021/08/25/covid-florida-more-than-10000-received-monoclonal-antibody-treatment/

The stuff seems to be reducing hospitalizations by about 70%... Hospitalization rates in Florida are about 10%, so out of the 10,000 treatments, 1000 likely would have been hospitalized, but the treatments should bring the total down to 300...

That's good, but to make a dent, they need to start reaching 2K-3K people per day...

But is there enough, can there possibly be enough, to use that nationally?

                              I wonder.

When Florida started, we had guys that were lined up, but had to wait a day or two because of product scarcity. And the treatment is most effective when done early.
