The anti-aging pill

Inspired by @kluurs recommendation, I read David Sinclair's book, "Lifespan." The guy has some serious academic credentials, and his book makes some very compelling points about why and how we age.
Now, the military is giving his work a serious look.

In the movies those pills usually make you crazy.
Since reading Sinclair's book, I've been taking one of the supplements (not specifically) referenced in that article. I've been at it for about 8 months.
Do I feel better? Probably not.
Do I feel worse? Definitely not.
Am I crazier? You guys figure it out. -

What supplement? Resveratrol?
Two:
NMN
Pterostilbine (more bio-available than resveratrol, supposedly).https://novoslabs.com/best-anti-aging-supplements-that-harvard-scientist-david-sinclair-takes/
ETA: my doc diagnosed me with Type II diabetes, which I very successfully brought under control with diet/exercise. I got my A1C to about 5.3 in about 6 months. I convinced him to add metformin, just in case, based on Sinclair's work.

I bought some based on that. My attorney says to keep a copy of this thread in case it is harmful.

I think I'm the only person I know who doesn't take a single tablet for anything.
Unless you count beer. The wonder-tonic.
I'll probably be dead soon.

An international team led by researchers from the University of Otago in New Zealand were able to show that castration of male sheep delays the aging of DNA, and the same principles could apply to humans as well.
“Both farmers and scientists have known for some time that castrated male sheep live on average much longer than their intact counterparts; however, this is the first time anyone has looked at DNA to see if it also ages slower,” said Victoria Sugrue, a researcher at the University of Otago and lead author of a paper about the research published in the journal eLife, in a statement.
The study is a testament to the development of tools that illuminate the rate at which DNA ages. In fact, thanks to cutting edge research, we are now able to estimate the age of humans and other creatures by looking only at their DNA. -

If not for my acid reflux pills, I could say the same.

I was the same until I got to age 45. My thyroid acted up, and I started supplemental thyroid. Since then, it's been about an additional pill per year, LOL.

Does a prostatectomy count the same?

In our twenties we take acid. In our 50's we take acid-reflux.
(Not that I ever took acid, obviously. I always was a boring old fart in that regard)

Rapamycin
“Rapamycin isn’t a panacea. Longer-lived animals might not fare as well on it as shorter-lived ones do; it’s been shown to be toxic to kidneys at high doses over extended periods of time; and it might suppress the immune system over time. That doesn’t mean TOR inhibition is a dead end, though. It might be safe in small or intermittent doses—that worked in mice to extend lifespan12 and in humans dramatically improved the immune responses of elderly people to a flu vaccine.13”
Excerpt From: David A. Sinclair. “Lifespan.” Apple Books.
“There are hundreds of researchers from the TOR inhibition side of the family working in universities and biotech companies to identify “rapalogs,” which are compounds that act on TOR in ways similar to rapamycin but have greater specificity and less toxicity.”
Excerpt From: David A. Sinclair. “Lifespan.” Apple Books.
“Like rapamycin, metformin mimics aspects of calorie restriction. But instead of inhibiting TOR, it limits the metabolic reactions in mitochondria, slowing down the process by which our cellular powerhouses convert macronutrients into energy.20 The result is the activation of AMPK, an enzyme known for its ability to respond to low energy levels and restore the function of mitochondria. It also activates SIRT1, one of my lab’s favorite proteins. Among other beneficial effects, metformin inhibits cancer cell metabolism, increases mitochondrial activity, and removes misfolded proteins.21”
“A study of more than 41,000 metformin users between the ages of 68 and 81 concluded that metformin reduced the likelihood of dementia, cardiovascular disease, cancer, frailty, and depression, and not by a small amount. In one group of already frail subjects, metformin use over the course of nine years reduced dementia by 4 percent, depression by 16 percent, cardiovascular disease by 19 percent, frailty by 24 percent, and cancer by 4 percent.22 In other studies, the protective power of metformin against cancer has been far greater than that. Though not all cancers are suppressed—prostate, bladder, renal, and esophageal cancer seem recalcitrant—more than twenty-five studies have shown a powerful protective effect, sometimes as great as a 40 percent lower risk, most notably for lung, colorectal, pancreatic, and breast cancer.23”

Reminds me of an old joke.
Doctor: "If you quit drinking you'll live longer."
Man: "No, it'll just seem longer."

Doubtful. If the plums are still there, they're still at work.
