Imagine all the great baseball players who might have been, but who were born in countries that just don't play baseball. What becomes of an Ohtani born in the Ukraine or central Africa? Or England?

    Education is extremely important.

He is breaking pitching/hitting records set by Babe Ruth when Ruth was pitching.

Ohtani is a free agent in 2 years.

The largest MLB contract is his teammate, Mike Trout, at $430 Million over 12 years, averaging almost $36 Million. .305 BA, .508 Slugging, average 39HR.

The largest pitching contract belongs to Gerrit Cole at 9 years, $324 Million averaging $36 Million. Career .649 W/L and 3.17 ERA.

The largest DH salary is Miguel Cabrera at 8 years, $248 Million, averaging $31,000,000. .311 Btting average, .518 Slugging, 32 HR per year.

Ohtani is batting .280, his slugging is an amazing .550, and is already at 31 HR halfway through the season. Pitching his W/L is .800 and his ERA is 3.49.

Anybody want to guess how much this guy gets paid? Most teams would pay $30 Million per year for a pitcher of his caliber and another $35 million per year for a hitter of his quality… $50,000,000 would be a savings for that team…Unless he gets hurt… Then you’ll be out your starting pitcher AND the #1 or #2 bat on your team…That’s the risk…

Have I mentioned my man crush on Ohtani? He’s batting .298 with the best slugging percentage in baseball and 25 HR.

He also has a 3.16 ERA and a 6-3 record as a starting pitcher. This guy is historic.

That is fully guaranteed and is by a fair amount the largest contract in history for any sport.

He could twist his ankle and make himself useless.

I wonder if the Dodgers have insurance against something like that.

It’s not the most per year, but it is the largest overall.

Reminds me of Strasburg's pitching contract with the Nationals in 2020. He earned $245 million and for that pitched 31 innings before retiring.

That means he made $8,000,000 per inning.

That means he made about $600,000 every single time he threw the ball.

Shohei Ohtani to defer all but $20M of his $700M Dodgers contract until its completion in 2034

Have I ever mentioned here how important culture is? Yeah, no American would do this. Good for Shohei.
