A wonderful recording of, probably my favorite of Sibelius' symphonies.
The second movement is just wonderful. Go to about 4:30 and listen to how well he brings out the pizzicato of the strings as counterpoint to the main melody.
I've said this is the perfect "Winter Symphony," even more than the Tchaikovsky 4th.

At the time of these recordings my cousin was playing in the viola section. He told me the orchestra members all liked and respected Colin Davis.

RN listening to way to much Taylor Swift. Daughter #3 almost always commandeering the car stereo on our trips.
I did help her purchase a nice entry level turntable and speakers though, which was kind of fun. And bought her Rumors and Revolver as Christmas presents for her growing collection of vinyl.

On your recommendation, I listened to #1, #2 and #5 today.
I found #1 just a bit too "contrast-ey" for my taste. Davis's pauses seemed to interrupt the flow of the music.
I'll continue this week.

My oldest is a huge Taylor Swift fan. Some would say a little to much but she is just like that when she is into something. Think me, only exponentially worse. lol
Nobody, and I mean nobody commandeers the stereo, except for me, when I am in the car. And I have 3 daughters. lol

Mrs. George went shopping.
I'm alone in the house, and I've got Gardiner's recording of the Beethoven #7 playing.
Really loud.

Listen to the use of the pedal in the repeats. Also, how heavy-handed...

I've always enjoyed Chris Isaak's music. I was unaware that, about 9 years ago, he released an album called "Beyond the Sun" in which he covers some of the classic songs from the Sun Studios - "Pretty Woman," "I Walk The Line," and a host of others.
I've not been able to find them on Spotify or Apple Music, but if you look around on Youtube, they're there.
