I purchased windshield insurance on my Subaru - because I'd gone through 3 windshields on my last one. It's expired and the windshield is intact. Any day now.... My first house had a warranty with it - and it came in handy when the pump on the heating system went out on the third day I was in the house. It was -10 real temp outside, and the house temperature dipped to the low 50s. When i called into the warranty company, they tried to suggest it wasn't an emergency; however, I convinced them that they were mistaken - and all was taken care of in prompt fashion. Speaking of furnace issues - my nephew once had an issue with his newly installed furnace. The contractor told him "let this be a lesson to you" which ultimately turned out to be a suboptimal choice of words since my nephew was close friends with someone known in mob circles as the "enforcer". A short conversation between the contractor with a couple of representatives of said family friend, and all was resolved.

Reminds me of scraps of manuscripts of unpublished materials suspected to have been left by Mozart or Chopin or Beethoven that got turned up in libraries or private archives every now and then. Those are usually celebrated rather than derided. Not sure why Harper Lee's leftover should be any different.

The blame on Zuckerberg seems misplaced. No one forces anyone to use Facebook.

I started taking a magnesium pill before bed to relax a tad more, and maybe it's placebo but I feel like my sleep and dreams are much deeper, especially the 2nd half of the night.

Tomlin is supposed to be a Defensive Coach first and foremost, and specifically a DB coach in particular. We’ve not really had a dominant defense since LeBeau left and despite spending more on defense salary than any other team. This year, Tomlin was even given the go ahead to trade for two DBs that he’s been pining over for years and made a big deal that these “coverage people” would allow us to finally put the defense of his dream on the field. How has that looked the last two weeks?

Makes you wonder if our law enforcement is too handcuffed. I knew an LA County Sheriff who worked for several years in the child abuse team. Said he had to leave it before he killed someone. I get that. You just wonder what would happen if the rounded up these pimps one night and put a bullet in the back of their heads. I suppose new monsters would just appear to take their place.

I once briefly went out with somebody who my brother referred to as 'The girl from hell'. I wonder how she would fit into this wholesome series of characterizations.

Yes they chose not to show full frontal male nudity, opting instead for artful camera angles. I can understand how that could be frustrating.

In the late 1800s and early 1900s, bananas were a relatively new import in North America and Europe. Their elongated shape and the act of eating them, especially in public, were considered suggestive by Victorian standards, which emphasized modesty and propriety. This led to bananas being labeled “immoral” or indecent, particularly when consumed by women. To counter this perception and boost sales, fruit companies launched a clever marketing campaign. They produced postcards and advertisements featuring women eating bananas in everyday, wholesome settings. These images were designed to normalize the fruit and detach it from its taboo reputation, reframing bananas as a healthy, family-friendly snack. The campaign worked. Over time, bananas shed their controversial image and became a staple of Western diets. Today, they’re one of the most consumed fruits globally, with little trace of their once-scandalous status. The story serves as a quirky reminder of how cultural norms, and clever advertising, can shape public perception. #banana #thehistoriansden

A clinically demented Trump is the strongest argument for the existential threat narratives. It's not the one they go with, because they're invested in a relatively coherent Trump being an existential threat.

@Axtremus said in Alternative Chocolates: Personally, I don't mind. I like the flavor, but I have no strong feeling for cacao beans one way or another. If there is a way to get the flavor without the saturated fat, so much the better. Or you could read a label on cocoa powder and check the saturated fat content.
