The question no one's been asking...

Any investment in time has to be worth it. It used to be that people used to enjoy debating ideas. Now ideological purity and echo chambers reign supreme. I don’t enjoy either but clearly a diverse ecosystem is a shrinking market everywhere.
It’s too bad. Lots of really interesting stuff gets introduced here and it appears those that left have better things to do with their time. It kind of sounds like the remaining people need to get ready for that day. I hope not but having a plan b is always a good idea.

Nothing against you, Opti, Friday, 89th or several others, but if the board suddenly lost Jon, George, Mik, Copper, Ax, Phibes and myself, you could turn off the lights.
Do it tomorrow, I don't give a shit.
This board stopped being about the board, and the people within it started becoming more important for me a long, long time ago. If this platform went dark for good tomorrow, I still have plenty of ways to stay in contact with the folks who make this place what it is for me.
Then, fuck off.
Participation by whomever is welcome, but nobody came busting down your door making you come here, so don't give me that holier-than-thou-I-am-above-the-fray horseshit.

I do, from time to time.

I'll do that when you stop trying to rank-ordering members of an internet board in order of how more or less important you think they are.

I didn't rank order. I said the core is more important than the periphery. That's stone cold truth, whether you like it or not. I can show you several internet forums that are barely functioning. We talked about one in this thread already. It takes more than one person, it takes a core group.
I like to hear your thoughts. I think you are a well-educated man with a somewhat unique perspective and skils everyone does not have. But the Truth is that if the board depended solely on you, or people with your erratic posting proclivity, it would have died years ago.
That is my opinion.
EDIT: Just for shits and grins, I looked back at the last 100 threads to see how many you started. You're batting 0.
The prosecution rests.
Now, here's a challenge...Prove me wrong. Think of a few things that interest you and post them. God knows we talk about almost everything around here and I'm sure somebody has an opinion on almost anything you can come up with.

I'm not disputing any of that, I think you're right.

That is my opinion.Probably would have, that's true. I just don't care. It's not like anyone out there is in danger of having their families dissolve if Facebook were to get shut down, and it's the same for this place. The board isn't a prerequisite for knowing and sharing stuff with the people who participate here.

The prosecution rests.Last I checked, neither jgoo or Klaus initiated any kind of thread post minimum, so I think I'm good.

That's another reason why I don't post here very much anymore. Fewer members, and the stuff I'm into I know for a fact isn't really that much of a thing for most folks, and that's alright. I don't see the point in boring George, Cats, and everyone else with a rant about Drow retcons when I know damn well Horace, LD, and probably that's it would even find that relevant, let alone interesting.

Sometimes things are super interesting but one is so unfamiliar with the topic that all they or I have to offer is “thats so cool”.

Well hey, that works, too. I'm not saying my weird stuff makes me too awesome for the likes of everyone else or anything. I just think that no one would really mind if I kept that sort of thing mostly to myself.

I think the only people who wish Larry wouldn’t return also wish this board dies. It validates their own non participation. Certainly no one returned with his departure.
But there are people who are more active when he is here. AndyD is a prime example.

I am cancelling out Jolly's invitation to Aqua to leave. Aqua's posts are among the most substantive and interesting of all the messages posted here.
Did you use Jolly's rank-ordering system to decide this?
