I have a couple of friends who voted for Trump who I must admit I teased mercilessly over it. One of them took it well, and teased me right back. One of them got in a bit of a huff, which was actually a lot funnier than the teasing.

I know, I know, teasing them was wrong. I'm a very naughty boy. I was probably trying to attack their First Amendment rights or some such bullshit. OTOH, if they didn't want teasing, they shouldn't have told me. Hey - people laugh at me for being English, something over which I have no control.

      I was only joking

"Teasing mercilessly" . It's probably that second word that got you into trouble...

Actually, all I did was say 'This is all your fault', every time Trump said something unbelievably stupid.

It was a very busy time.

Politics has replaced religion. Tolerance is probably what we should be aiming for while we have special friendships with members of our own congregation/tribe.

Same here. TDS was one of the most pathetic psychological trends I've ever witnessed. Really brought out the worst weaknesses in millions.

Nor have I. But, more than one of our "internet friends" said that they would have no interaction with ANYONE who supported Trump.

That's some deep-seated pathology there, coming from people who are supposedly smart and open-minded.

Yes, the hatred for Mr. Trump is insane

I think we can all agree that Mr. Obama is a 2-bit thug

But there is no similar reasoned thought about Mr. Trump, just blind hatred

Don't be too quick, Phibes. Here's an excerpt from a NYT opinion piece by Ross Douthat, yesterday: "But that note didn’t adequately convey just how despairing a lot of progressives have become, treating the hypothetical where Trump (or, for that matter, some other Republican nominee) actually succeeds in overturning an election defeat not just as a possibility but as a likely outcome in 2024, the destination to which we’re probably headed absent some unexpected change.

“This is where it’s going,” the press critic Jay Rosen of New York University tweeted recently, about a scenario in which state legislatures, the House and the Senate would simply hand the presidency to the G.O.P. nominee, “and there is presently nothing on the horizon that would stop it.”

The article was somewhat dense, at least for me, but it seemed worth paying attention to: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/06/08/opinion/trump-2024.html

Success is measured by your discipline and inner peace. – Mike Ditka
