About that meat shortage

I can not understand Costco’s rotisserie chicken. It is absolutely delicious and the chickens are ginormous, but how it’s possible to sell at $4.99, I will never know. I can’t buy a raw chicken for under $12 right now.

It’s all me. First I bought up toilet paper and hand sanitizer, then I posted a shortage warning on TNCR. Then I bought up the hair clippers...

@LuFins-Dad I've “heard” they raise their own chickens which decreases the cost and increases the quality
@brenda fair enough! Speaking of fairs...I wonder what foods will be at the MN State Fair this year, if at all. What a delicious event.
@taiwan_girl no joke! I didn’t buy any PB but when I passed it in Costco I thought “but I remember TNCR saying it may be in short supply soon!”

89 - it's not just costco though.
My local stop & shop had them for 4.99 for a while, maybe a year ago they went up to 5.99. THey're surprisingly cheap in most groceries, at least relative to what a whole chicken costs.
Possibly it's a loss leader, people are buying tonights pre-made dinner for the most part, they'll probably get some of the higher margin deli salads as sides. They do keep the chickens at the deli after all. (thinking of grocery stores not Costco)
Also they tend to be pretty small and nobody checks to see if they're cage free, air chilled, no antibiotics or whatever. So they can probably use the most
barbaricefficient production methods conceivable. -
Costco wasn’t bad today. They didn’t have any frozen chicken but I was able to get some Tyson’s chicken breasts, as well as their rotisserie chicken which is the best deal there for $4.99. The meat falls off the bone and you get a ton!
Anyway, I heard the echoes of TNCR while I was there so I got eggs, tuna, deli turkey, almonds, etc...

My costco run went well too. Busier than I expected - though not packed. Nice that everyone wore masks.
It was nice going back to store after over a month. I went pretty overboard - ran up more than $1000! (I don't need to go back for months)
Most things I wanted were in stock. Canned tomatoes and green beans were notable misses. Meat was still well stocked - though there was a limit on purchases.
